Theth

Bjeshkët e Nemuna — a village in the Accursed Mountains.

A small mountain village in Shkodër County, in the heart of Theth National Park. Its old centre is a protected historic area of stone houses, a church and a lock-in tower, ringed by big limestone peaks.

Dining

Fancy dinners

Few formal fine-dining spots — the nicest meals are often at guesthouses with a view.

Typical dishes: Grilled fish or seafood, lamb, steaks, salads and wine. On the coast look for fresh catch of the day; inland, thoughtful takes on tavë kosi and traditional plates.

Street food

Limited street food; stock up in Shkodër or the valley hubs before you hike.

Typical dishes: Byrek and pite by the piece, qebapa in bread with onion and kajmak, qofte, suxhuk, bakllava and strong coffee or macchiato.

Guesthouse kitchens: mountain dairy, flija, soups, grilled meat and homemade bread.
