Winter 2026–27
Best winter connections to Prishtina and Tirana: Istanbul, Vienna, Frankfurt, Zurich or Munich?
Flying from North America, the hub you connect through decides how many second flights you can fall back on if fog or snow cancels one. These are the onward flights the airlines themselves list for winter 2026–27.
Updated 2026-10-22
Short answer
All five hubs connect to both Prishtina and Tirana this winter. Going by the airlines' own pages, Zurich–Prishtina (Edelweiss, 15–16 flights a week in December and January) and Vienna–Tirana (Austrian, 17 a week) have the most flights; Munich–Tirana has the fewest (Lufthansa, 3 a week).

How to choose a hub in winter
Estimate · checked on 22 Oct 2026
Our reading of the table: the more onward flights a hub has, the more same-day options the airline has to rebook you if your first flight is late or the second is cancelled. On that measure Vienna and Zurich stand out for winter, and Munich–Tirana is the thinnest.
Price both airports. Tirana has more airlines from the big hubs, but the US State Department warns that winter fog frequently delays or cancels flights into Tirana. Prishtina and Tirana are linked by the Rruga e Kombit motorway if you need to land at one and go to the other.
Keep both flights on one ticket

Under EU rules, if you miss a connection on a single reservation and reach your final destination more than 3 hours late, you're entitled to compensation unless extraordinary circumstances caused it. You're not covered if you missed it because of security queues or didn't respect the boarding time at the transfer airport.
Two separate bookings (for example a transatlantic ticket plus a low-cost hop) don't get that protection, so leave a long gap if you combine them.
