Updated
Short answer
This week: Europe's clocks went back on 25 October but US clocks don't change until 1 November, so the US–Europe gap is one hour smaller until then; Ryanair has flown Cologne/Bonn–Tirana since 25 October; Wizz Air's new Prishtina routes start on 16 and 17 November; EES is fully running; ETIAS has still not started.

1. Until 1 November the US–Europe time gap is one hour smaller
Verified · checked on 26 Oct 2026
What changed: UK clocks went back one hour on Sunday 25 October 2026 (GOV.UK). Albania did the same, at 03:00 that morning, according to the state news agency ATSH, and summer time returns on 28 March 2027. US daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday 1 November 2026 (NIST).
What it means for you: this week New York is 5 hours behind Tirana instead of the usual 6, and Chicago 6 instead of 7. From 1 November the usual gap is back. Estimate: Kosovo keeps the same time as Albania, but we found no Kosovo government page announcing the change, so check your phone's clock on arrival.
If you have a connection, a pickup or a family call this week, check the local times on your booking. Flight times are always shown in local time.
2. Ryanair now flies Cologne/Bonn–Tirana
Verified · checked on 26 Oct 2026
What changed: Köln Bonn Airport says Ryanair flies from Cologne/Bonn to Tirana for the first time, up to five times a week, from 25 October (press release, 9 October 2026). The route started on Sunday.
What it means for you: a new direct option for families in the Cologne/Bonn area. Times and fares are on the airline's own site.
3. Wizz Air's new Prishtina routes start on 16 November
Verified · checked on 26 Oct 2026
What changed: in a news release on its own site (29 July 2026), Wizz Air says it will base one Airbus A321neo at Prishtina from November 2026, launch routes to Brussels Charleroi, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Basel-Mulhouse, and run Dortmund five times a week instead of three, for nine routes from Prishtina.
What it means for you: more direct options from Belgium, south-west Germany and the Basel area.
Start dates, from the same Wizz Air release: Basel-Mulhouse daily and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden from 16 November, Brussels Charleroi from 17 November. In December, Hahn Airport and Hamburg Airport list Wizz Air flights to Prishtina from 14 and 15 December, and easyJet restarts London Luton–Prishtina on 7 December. Every route, with days and sources, is in our new winter routes guide.
Estimate (to confirm): in October, trade press reported that the December routes to Hahn, Hamburg and Malmö will run twice a week instead of four times, and Berlin twice instead of three times. Check the days on wizzair.com before you book.
4. EES: fingerprints and a photo instead of passport stamps
Verified · checked on 26 Oct 2026
What changed: the EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. It replaces passport stamps at Schengen external borders with a digital record of non-EU travellers' entries and exits (European Commission).
What it means for you: on a Kosovo, Albanian, US or Canadian passport you register on your first crossing, so leave extra time at the border. Who it applies to, passport by passport, is in our EES & ETIAS guide.
5. ETIAS still hasn't started: don't pay any 'ETIAS' site
Verified · checked on 26 Oct 2026
What changed: nothing yet. The official EU site says ETIAS is not in operation and no applications are being collected. The start date will be announced in advance, and the fee will be EUR 20.
What it means for you: if a website charges you for ETIAS today, it isn't the EU. Bookmark the official page.
